Fake bomb threat

Police officials say that a 31-year-old woman, Deniz Martinez, of Lake Wales, Florida, is facing felony charges after she falsely reported a bomb threat at a probation and parole office building to prevent her boyfriend from taking a drug test.

According to WFLA, Martinez called 911 at approximately 2:42 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, and stated that “there was a man in front of the probation and parole office building,” which is located at 1289 1st St. South in Winter Haven, and he is “going to blow the building up.”

When the 911 dispatcher began questioning the caller, asking if she was at the scene, it was reported that Martinez hung up the phone. When the operator made several attempts to call back, it was unsuccessful.

The Lake Wales Police Department were immediately notified about the bomb threat and dispatched officers to the scene.

After learning it was a hoax, police began investigating the caller who reported the bomb threat.

Investigators were able to determine that the cell phone number belonged to Martinez and were able to track her down at her apartment home.

After being questioned by police, Martinez — who is the mother of a young boy — admitted to making the fake bomb threat as an attempt to prevent her 38-year-old boyfriend, Jason Drake, who owns a tattoo parlor in Kissimmee, from submitting a urine test to the office of probation and parole.

The former medical assistant told investigators that around 8:30 a.m. that day, she drove her boyfriend to the office, and he was informed that he would have to take a mandatory drug test.

Drake apparently began to stall the process, telling his probation officer that he was unable to provide a urine sample. However, probation officers told Drake that “he had to stay in the building” until he was able to do so.

Six hours later, Martinez reportedly left the building to make a phone call — one that would land her and her boyfriend behind bars.

Martinez told investigators that she dialed 911 and reported a fake bomb threat in hopes that he wouldn’t have to take the drug test.

Police arrested the Everest University student at her home on charges of “one count of filing a false report concerning planting a bomb.”

Some people have stated, via social media, that Martinez went too far to protect her boyfriend, saying “people like her and her boyfriend need to be put in a jail, where they can sit and think about what they did. And they should not be allowed to have recreational activities and television.”

Facebook user, Kathleen Fougner, stated that the suspect was a “special kind of stupid.”

Others disagreed, saying that “this is love when you are willing to mess up your own life for someone else” and referring to Martinez as a “real ride or die chick.”

Susan Wilson added, “All you can do anymore is just shake your head. Kind of scary, though, to know these people sit at home and come up with this crap.”

Drake was also arrested, but police officials say he was charged with violation of probation after failing to provide a urine sample.

As of yet, he has not been charged with the bomb threat hoax as police officials are investigating his role in the crime, according to the Tampa Bay.

It was not immediately made clear if either Drake or Martinez, who many social media users have called “Dumb and Dumber,” has a lawyer at this present time.

It was later uncovered that Drake has a troubled criminal history, involving “shoplifting, drug possession and domestic battery by strangulation.”

In February 2014, Drake was arrested on a “misdemeanor criminal conspiracy charge.” Two years later, he found himself back in jail in March 2014 on charges of “one count battery.”

No further information is being released at this time; however, police officials have since released the 911 audio call of the Lake Wales woman reporting a bomb threat.
